Collagen Formulations

Strukmyer collagen is produced in both pad and powder form. There are no chemicals added in the manufacturing process and the final product is a 100% collagen based. Endotoxins can be a problem for patient safety but Strukmyer collagen meets and exceeds the FDA expectation of ≤20 EU per device using a proprietary method of depyrogenation.

Strukmyer developed and received a 510k from the FDA on a pure collagen formulation following months of R&D. The company manufactures medical grade collagen products from 100% bovine Type 1 collagen sourced from BSE-free countries. All products are manufactured in clean rooms consistent with ISO 13485 certification. Customers use Strukmyer’s high-purity collagen for culture research and in approved medical devices for orthopedic, dental, surgical, wound care and other applications.

Indications for use are: partial and full thickness wounds, 1st and 2nd degree burns, ulcers caused by mixed vascular etiologies, pressure ulcers (stage 1 – IV), venous stasis and diabetic ulcers, cut abrasions and surgical wounds.

Collagen Powder

The powder produced at Strukmyer is a highly absorbent dressing designed to absorb ≥20 times its weight. The powder color is white to off white and the intent of collagen wound care dressings are to deliver a moist wound environment. Applying powder conforms easily to a wound without having to cut and fit, as is accomplished using a pad. As the powder absorbs wound exudate, a gel is formed. Strukmyer’s collagen is produced with a low ph, and there have been studies that indicate a ph under 4 prevents microbial growth. The powder can be packaged in ½ gram, 1 gram, 5 gram and 10 gram packaging.

Collagen Sheet

Literature suggests that Collagen dressings stimulate new tissue growth and encourage the deposition and organization of newly formed collagen fibers and granulation tissue in the wound bed. These dressings chemically bind to matrix metalloproteinases found in the extracellular fluid of wounds. Strukmyer’s collagen pads are produced to deliver a soft pad-like appearance with greater absorption capability. These pads are white in color and physically cross-linked using no chemicals in the process, therefore, producing a purer collagen wound dressing. This cross-linking process is proprietary to Strukmyer.
